Who/what is Savith?

To me, Sav is more then just a screen name. He is a character that has appeared in many games, be it it video, tabletop, or role playing. For the most part, he has stayed, a tall, semi viking-ish warrior with dark armor and blood red hair and sometimes wears a skull mask. He is a proficient death dealer and determined as hell.

Why the red hair and dark armor?

He isn't naturally a redhead. His hair is forever dyed red from being covered in the blood of battle. That is the story behind it.

Where did the name come from?

the way I remember it, it spawn all the way back to about 1997 with the game Diablo. I needed a username / character name and everything I could think of was already in use. While I was getting frustrated trying to figure something out, my brother and a friend were behind me making a spoof song of Black Sabath's Ironman. A small miss-spelling and not realizing it until a while later, and the name has forever stuck.

I then started to use the name for my D&D character. During this time, Sav became a Necromancer who wore red robes. carried a scythe, and would raise a small army of skeletons. I eventually found a pewter figure to represent him and this became him for a few years.

Later, Diablo 2 came out and he transferred to there and remained a Necromancer but was more of a melee fighter and simply used the undead as a small fighting force.

around 2001, I started to come up with a more fleshed out story of the character of Sav involving massive wars, a full crew of allies and all kinds of other stuff. Never did write it down since there were massive gaps in the story. At this time, what the final form of him started to take shape and has stayed pretty much the same ever since. He became a warrior in black, plate armor, long, red blood soaked hair, and wore the skull of a warlord he defeated. I'll admit a chunk of his appearance was heavily influenced by one of my favorite movie villains, General Kael of Willow.

One of the first appearances of the "new" Sav was a custom character I made for my Chaos Space Marine army for Warhammer 40k. He still carried a scythe into battle but this was the last time he would use it. (model is fairly old and missing parts.)

After that, I started to make a game about his story but unfortunately, I never finished it and the files are lost to time. Game was an old fashion, top down, rpg and had about 2 hours of game play. Unfortunately, no pictures exist anymore. At around this time, I stopped using Sav for D&D and miniature games and he became almost exclusively a video game character.

One of first big appearances of him was a ranger (wanted to test the class) in Guildwars.

The next major appearance, and the one most of you know him from, was as a Chosen in Warhammer Online. He wore blue armor in this game since it fit the god the chaos warriors worshiped and, mainly, black dye was too damn hard to get.

Next, he moved to Rift. To me, I never really liked the way his face looked in this game.

After Rift, he returned to Guildwars in Guildwars 2. I always thought he had an Agent Smith thing going in this game.

Then off to Elder Scrolls V Skyrim. I was told he looked like "he eats babies" in this game. He had once again the black around the eye (this time both) from WAR and to me, I think this is my favorite depiction of him.

We started playing Neverwinter Online and Sav came along for the ride.

Now we are in Elder Scrolls Online and the newest rendition of Sav. I'm fairly happy with the way he looks in this game.

So that's the journey of Savith. He'll show up in every game I play since he has become an almost embodiment of me there.

Oh, when I say hes kinda become part of me, I've spent a little bit of money and started to bring him to life (Halloween costume).

I like the character development, the lack of variety of mobs in the lowbie areas is sad, reminds me of PoE..  But the weapons and advancement in that area makes it fun anyways..  Am looking forward to making it to the Contracts stage (PvP) just to see how it translates.. 

The mini quests and story line quests are interesting, though perhaps a little easy earlier on..  Group questing makes these ridiculously easy..  Hopefully will be a different story in the higher levels..  Do like the fact that content is dependant on the TV series storylines..

The whole games seems to be a blend of Farcry 3 & Borderlands 2..  Lots of shooting, fast driving and character/weapon development.. 

More feedback as I get into the 250+ areas..

Am heading into Defiance to see what secrets it holds.. 

Will report back if it's any good or just another throw away..

You just need to find yourself a loophole within your own principles, for example I had the same issue with Mass Effect 3 and the day one DLC. On principle I hated the concept of day one DLC but I still wanted it, so instead I bought the Collector's Edition which came with the DLC for free. I managed to get the DLC I wanted and didn't violate my principles.

Are there any loopholes to your own principles that you could exploit?

Here in the states, PC games have always been $50 and last cycle it was the same with console games. When the new cycle of consoles started to roll out, the Xbox360 first, Microsoft increased the licencing fees they put on the developers for having their games on microsoft's hardware (It rounds to near $12). As a business move, it's pretty smart, profit off every game being played on their system is easy money. I believe it was either Activision or Ubisoft realized the easy way to deal with this is to put the fee on the consumer so they wouldn't be loosing any money. So:

$50game +10fee = Console $60 price tag.

Sony fallowed behind them and that is why they have the same prices for games while Nintendo charged less so no extra fees.

So now we have $60 console games, because of licencing fees, and $50PC games because it is an open platform. When Modern Warfare 2 came out, Activion, I guess this is their dumbass reasoning, decided to charge $60 for the PC version because "they wont notes the difference" and it makes a nice even price across the board. People bitched, including myself, because that meant:

Console games = $50game + $10fee = $60 final price

PC = $60game + $0fee = $60 final price

Just like the Uproar over Left for Dead 2, People went out and bought it anyways so Activision won and Ubisoft saw this and started charging the same price for their PC line. Now just about everyone fallows it and uses excuses like "extra work making a PC version" and "because of piracy". EA does it the best by saying all thier PC games are "limited edition" (they are the same as the console versions) to justify the price tag.

So that is why I wont pay $60 for a PC game. I will not pay more for a PC game then a console game because they want more and think I'm to too stupid to realize it. With the arguement about "I pay more in the long run for a Rift subscription," that is a different subject. Subcriptions are different then price gauging upfront by greedy corperations.
